Yannis Dragasakis is the Vice-President of the Government (appointed in February 2015). He is a SYRIZA MP for the Second Constituency of Athens.
Yannis Dragasakis was a leading figure of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) until 1991 and one of the founders of the Coalition of the Left and the Progress (Synaspismos/SYN). In the June 1989 General Election, he was elected MP for the Coalition of the Left and the Progress for the Constituency of Chania (Crete). In November 1989 Yannis Dragasakis was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance in the Ecumenical Cabinet of Xenophon Zolotas, a position he held through April 1990.
Thereafter, he was re-elected as an MP for the Second Constituency of Athens in 1996, 2004, 2007 and 2012.
During his time in Parliament Yannis Dragasakis has held numerous positions, including:
• Deputy Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament
• Member of the Hellenic Parliament’s Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and the Implementation of the State Budget
• Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
• Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on the European Social Charter
Yiannis Dragasakis has studied Politics and Economics in Greece and abroad. As a student in Athens, he was active member of the anti-junta movement. During his studies in London, he was Secretary of the Union of Greek Students in London.
Currently, he is a member of the Managing Board of the Athens-based Nikos Poulantzas Institute.

Yannis Dragasakis has held various positions in the private sector.
Yiannis Dragasakis was born in Crete in September 1947. He has two daughters, Marianna and Rinio.
